One day in prayer I was crying out to God about the size of our congregation. The church had consistently run 50 in attendance for many years period as the newer pastor, I was hoping to see that change. God’s answer to my concerns surprised me. God said, “will you pastor 50 if that's all that I entrust to you?” My answer surprised me as well. I felt like Abraham bargaining over Sodom. I said to the Lord, “yes, as long as souls are saved and lives are changed.”
A few years prior a leader sent a scathing letter to all of the pastors of churches with 50 members or less. I wasn't a pastor at the time, but was serving on staff. The letter stated that the only reason the church wasn't growing was the fault of the pastor.
Wow. What a gut punch. That punch reset resonated into the hearts of many pastors with the wrong message; Small church equals failed mission. Quite simply, it is an attitude that must change for eternity.
Jesus left the 99 and went to the one. What are the 99 doing in the wilderness in his absence? It is my belief that the 99 cannot be ignored, but rather, “left in the wilderness,” equipped, empowered, and encouraged.
What would it look like if every Church of under 100 persons were gifted to thrive in the wilderness?
Our mission is to see 10,000 churches in the next 10 years become empowered, encouraged, and equipped for maximum kingdom impact!
How long has it been since your church baptized a convert?
